In 1990, Amartya Sen observed that the world was short of 100 million women because of excess female mortality in India, China and South Korea.
The next year, Ansley Coale put the figure at around 60 million for China, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and West Asia and Egypt only.

(10 apr 2006) As the member nations of the UN discuss reforms at the United Nations, there is a strong demand to create a separate agency to deal with women's issues. Currently these issues are dispersed among several UN bodies - UNIFEM, UNFPA and many others.

OWDEB has an initiative to spread its essence to protest and protect women from the cruel shadow of Domestic violence from its early stage. Violence against women is universal till now. It injures or kills one in three women across the world.
The right to gender equality underpins all OWDEB’s work.
We feel proud that we are the part of the regional WE CAN campaign in South Asia, with Oxfam that aims to recruit five million volunteer 'change makers' to help mobilise 50 million people and bring about a big change in attitudes towards women.
“We have taken an oath to be Change Makers in the ‘We Can’ campaign hoping to bring change and end violence against women. “ --- A Commitment of our stakeholder in Chittagong always inspire us to do more and more work to create a gender friendly environment for our women and men also.
